Mr. Cunningham, I stand corrected by you. You are absolutly correct, you did not get an email from me, and I never sent one. I edited my post because I could not remember exactly what I did. However, I did spend some time learning about computors and where and how they store information. Please see the public link below, and note that you never responded. Do you think, I am suppose to feel welcome at your meeting after reading this? And again, I did not intend my post yesterday to involve HOBOs. And, for the record, I applaud you for most of what you do and stand for. Now, lets end this and agree to disagree please. Click link below.
Respectfully,
Steve

Steve and I have talked at length and agree that we both have much more important things to do than argue on this forum--or anywhere else for that matter. Steve (and everyone else) is welcome to join the HOBOs and help us protect this lake.
Steve's big announcement is forthcoming and welcome.
If anyone knows a politician, state worker, APCo worker, FEMA worker, or Federal worker, please tell them we need our lake cleaned up NOW. The bureaucracy is holding up the issuance of contracts for the cleanup. Be careful on the water, props are expensive and children are to precious to lose.

Not to belabor the topic, but has HOBO's or LMRA, et al, had any impact on the cleanup effort? Considering the level of lake owner taxes going to Elmore,Tallapoosa counties as well as Alex City and Dadeville, I would expect those entities to be heavily involved. Maybe they are, but I have not heard them mentioned here or in the media? If not, maybe HOBOS/LMRA could apply some guidance. Within a few days after the storms, the media moved on to the next disaster; the local news went dark. If you know the current status in the damaged areas, maybe consider a newsletter from HOBO, published here and elsewhere, giving an update, as well as specifics on how those of us not hurt can help in any way?? Fat, Dumb and Happy in this case is decidedly uncomfortable. Thanks,,,

Mack, the HOBOs have tried to address the issue for the past two weeks and this info is as up to date as we have.
Alabama Power initially indicated that they were going to contract for the heavy cleanup, then on May 5 or6, they pulled the announcement off the website and fell silent. We have learned that they found out that FEMA was paying for the cleanup at Guntersville Lake (a Gov Lake) so they decided that Lake Martin was a "public" lake and should also be cleaned by FEMA. Many lawyers have been involved between all the agencies to determine if FEMA would clean the lake--meanwhile we sit with nothing going on, no decision, and no clean up. It would be useless for volunteers to clean up the small stuff since we'd have to go back after the barge and cranes leave anyway.
This past week we have talked with AL EMA Director, ADECA Director, Corps of Engineers, Alabama Power VP, OWR Director, APCo Environmental Dept., and FEMA.
What we find is all of the agencies are overwhelmed by the size of the disaster. Forget any help at the county level--these people are not trained for any type of disaster. At the state level, the attention is solely on those without homes and food all over the state, as it should be.
Answer: We don't expect much movement until either APCo changes their wait and let FEMA pay for it attitude, or FEMA decides to act. Unfortunately, the lake and the three county area will suffer economically until bureaucrats get off their duffs and move.
Believe me, I have no experience dealing with bureaucrats and it is very frustrating. People spend way more time making sure they don't make a decision, than actually getting something done--moving forward, taking responsibility and making good things happen. Worse than frustrating.
I went through Katrina up close and personal and this experience is like the Keystone Kops comparatively speaking. It's their first rodeo.
We'll keep you informed.

We had a idea that is probably not very intelligent, but what if they( alabama power/state) simply paid for waste by the pound? I feel pretty sure that all the locals and homeowners would be glad to render their services to help clean up. would probably cost less and be a faster service than what we have right now.any thoughts about this or an i crazy?

Considering we have no public information officer assigned to our area suggests there is no cohesive plan of attack. Just individual fiefdoms making sure it is not their responsibility or perhaps more importantly to them, not their expense. Don't we have an ex-governor (Riley) living on this lake? Seems his Treasure Lake decree is just BS or he'd take a more active interest.

Maybe someone should write to Riley and ask him for his advice. His house is not in an affected area, and he may be unaware. Not sure how much time he actually spends on the lake.
