Question for CAT

Hey Steve, question about the Chris Craft. For some reason when you start it the engine runs really rough and vibrates for maybe 20 seconds and then runs fine. Happens whether it is a cold start or when hot and does not happen every time. Reminds me of what happens to an airplane engine when you lean it too much and the cylinders do not fire at exactly the same time.
Any suggestions?

If I remember correctly, that is a Volvo Penta engine/drive combo. I would bet that it is a fuel pressure issue. The fuel system on your boat has two pumps. The low pressure pump and Hi-presure pump are located on the same bracket on the front of the engine. There is also a water line running to the system to cool the fuel. The low pressure pump pulls fuel from the engine feed line and feeds the hi-pressure pump next to it. The water circulates around a fuel bladder to cool the fuel before/after it runs through the rail at around 40psi. All this needs to work together or you get a rough runnin' engine. Other than that, you probably need a good tune up. If you will get it down to the shop this week, we will handle it for you. I will bring my Volvo software with me to the Lake this week. Glad the "Pinky" boat is doing well.
Respectfully, Steve

You are right about the Volvo Penta and it does sound like a fuel system issue because once the shaking stops it seems to run great. I'm not coming down until the end of the month sadly. I suppose there's no way to get it to you by water is there? I know it won't fit under the bridge. I sold my Sequoia and all I have now is the wimpy Honda Pilot so me towing it to you is not on my list of fun things to do.

Gee, get a truck and be a man. If I were at the lake I would tow it for you. Steve will find a way to get it fixed before you come back to the lake.

Don't get me started. Bought my wife a new Pilot and sold my Sequoia because I don't want seven cars in my driveway. I had hoped the Pilot would be able to pull the bigger boat but it didn't even handle the Malibu all that well.

Conservatives live on hope and Liberals read the reviews to see the towing capacity. Guess when you have 7 vehicles you HOPE one will tow. What are they Volts and Prius and Pilots???????Are you a dam" closet Liberal trying to save the world with all your green vehicles????????

GF, unlike me, you never amaze me. My vehicles are as follows: 2013 Honda Pilot Touring, 2006 Lexus LS430, 2009 Volvo C90, 2008 Dodge Charger, 2011 Honda Civic and a 1995 Volvo 940.......nary an eco wacko vehicle in the group. Civic is probably as close as I'm ever gonna get. The Pilot advertised better towing capacity than I think it actually has based on my first use with the Malibu. Worked fine but I doubt it will do so well with the 5,000 lb deck boat.

It still runs fine except some rough running occasionally when you start up. I just didn't want to tow the monster over the road if I could avoid it. At 489.5' it won't get under the bridge as we have been there before to visit some friends and had to park at the marina and walk over.

Sounds like it - I think he has three dealer tags mounted on magnets that he moves to the car du jour.

Except the dog would be constantly driving to Taco Bell for food and would never be available to tow the monster boat......oh wait a second, that't the problem I have with my kids......I get them all so confused......
I can't get rid of the Rhodesian Ridgeback as my Mom and kids seem fond of her....my wife would not miss her for a moment.....and of course she is 9 years old and still looks and acts like a puppy...she will probably live to be 20 with my luck.
